Church torn by ban on interracial couples
Having worked and lived all across the Commonwealth, I can tell you that there are certain regions of the state, that while perhaps not overtly bigoted with regard to interracial marriage, do tend to be tougher on such couples than others. The larger cities, such as Louisville and Lexington are much more accepting, particularly Louisville, since our population is more highly integrated than most other cities in the state.
I suspect there are going to be people who can't accept interracial marriage no matter where you go. But Kentucky is not the deep south, neither in geographic terms nor in cultural terms.

You could get a little cut on your finger. By the time the story gets back to you from everybody telling what happened, something has torn your arm off instead of a finger cut. And they made it sound worse that it really was.
Louisville or Lexington, no question. While you probably won't be harassed in rural Kentucky, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure -- and the recent example involving a church that banned interracial couples outside Pikeville a few years back is a reminder that parts of the state are still living in another era. While not a mecca for it, Louisville has grown to have the reputation of an interracial marriage Oasis in the area.
The demographics of Lexington, particularly by having a very young and quickly diversifying population with respect to race, make it a safe bet as well.

Hi, Elcf, I was reading a bit older thread asking about "liberal pockets in Kentucky". You may want to scan that thread. One person mentioned Berea, Kentucky, 30 minutes from Lexington. So you may want to check out that town.
Though I'm not from Kentucky, my ex is black and I'm white so I do know a bit about that. As we traveled around and living in a very white state we never had any problems.

You have to expect that people may give ya a look, it's most always not a dirty look though. Just look them in the eye and give a genuine smile and you will find most everyone will smile back and go on shopping without giving it another thought.
