The shutout was the first of the season for the Bobcats and it marked the second straight regular season road shutout dating back to last year.

Both have been credited to goalkeeper Ally Lozanowho now has six career shutouts with her Saturday afternoon efforts. Whitney's game-winner came roughly six minutes after checking into her first collegiate game. Miranda Thomas also subbed in at the same time Whitney did and was in on the action when the goal was scored.

The offensive sequence started with an Emily Burnett throw in. Burnett found Thomas near post, who reeled off a shot that was blocked. Whitney came sprinting into the penalty box, winning the race to the blocked ball and used her left foot to put it into the back of the net. Overall, UC Merced controlled Saturday's match with 17 shots compared to the Warriors seven, including on target.

The Bobcats also won the corner kick battle Jenn Salinger ed for the Bobcats first of 17 shots, coming off a set piece where Noodles Sidhu sent a long ball near the net. However, Salinger's shot was saved by Warriors keeper Camille Cavey. Six of the Bobcats seven corner kicks came in the first half, including two in the final five minutes.

Of all six first half corners, it was Sidhu who managed to get the cleanest look at the net. Although they weren't off corners, Burnett and Jocelyne Garcia also peppered the Warriors with shots in the first half. William Jessup recorded their first and only shot of the first half in the tenth minute and it would end up being the only shot that Lozano was tasked with saving the entire afternoon.

The Warriors heaviest shot dosage didn't come until the 83rd minute and they had four opportunities to net an equalizer. One of the Warriors' shots was blocked by Sydney Quinterowho played all 90 minutes for the second consecutive game.

The other three shots didn't make it to Lozano. No Warrior notched multiple shots, while five Bobcats got off at least two shots. Opal Ward shared match-high with two shots on goal.

Garcia also had two shots, one on goal. First touch is slated for pm on Bobcat Field.
